Philippe Starck to Design New SLS LUX Philadelphia Hotel

Developer Dranoff Properties and sbe, a hospitality, lifestyle, and real estate development company, have named French designer Philippe Starck as the interior designer for the new SLS LUX Philadelphia Hotel & SLS International Residences. The building was designed by KPF Architects and is located on the former site of Philadelphia International Records in Center City. Since 2005, Starck has served as the exclusive hotel interior design for all SLS properties, including “The Bazaar by Jose Andres.”

The new 47-story tower will house 152 boutique hotel rooms, a landscaped sundeck, a 75-foot indoor pool, a fitness center, and a full-service spa. The SLS International Residences will be located on floors 20–47 and will feature a total of 90 condominiums. Each condo will have an open floor plan with 10-foot ceilings, and generous windows and a full-size balcony will offer views of the city. Hotel guests and condo residents will be able to take advantage of many amenities, including concierge, housekeeping, laundry, valet parking, 24-hour dining service, meeting rooms, and banquet facilities.

“From London to Rio de Janeiro to Tokyo, the name Philippe Starck is synonymous with design excellence,” said Sam Nazarian, chairman, founder, and CEO of sbe. “He is effortlessly chic and his focus on reimagining the art of living through design made Philippe the perfect partner for all of our SLS hotels, but especially Philadelphia where the property upon which we will build is steeped in such history.”

“To be entrusted to design the SLS LUX Philadelphia Hotel on the former site of Philadelphia International Records is an extraordinary privilege and opportunity, especially for my first project here,” Starck said. “The cultural richness of this city and its history provide unending inspiration and now knowing the history of this property, it is reminiscent of my work with EastWest studios in Hollywood. I am excited to continue my collaboration with Sam and SLS and I look forward to working with Dranoff and the incomparable Gene Kohn of Kohn Pederson Fox Associates in creating one of the great architectural and design properties in the United States, if not the world.”
